This shot were taken on a bike tour through the Odenwald (it’s a small mountain range in Germany’s south-west). I saw the scene, pulled the bike off the road and took the shot.

These trees live next to the Rhine and I pass them each day when I go to work. I like their innocence. As they stay in the flood detention area of the Rhine they just live there in peace without any human influence. Since a few years I’ve been thinking of taking a picture of them and last weekend I finally did it.

Speyer is a small beautiful town at the Rhine in the south-west of Germany. With its history of around 2000 years it is also one of Germany’s oldest cities. Even emperors of the Holy Roman Empire and German Kings are buried here and in the middle age it was one of the major cities of Europe. But there is something Speyer also applies to be famous for: It’s the Pretzel. Speyer claims itself for being the inventor of the Pretzel. Probably this is more a legend than the truth. But however, since exactly 100 years they celebrate the “Brezelfest”. A festivity in honor of the Pretzel, which lasts entire 5 days. The scene above is a snapshot of this party.
Since a few years I live in Speyer now. I love this tiny little city

Both Gull-Photos have been selected for the Leica Gallery: M9 MASTER SHOTS. So I’m a bit proud
…but just a little bit.
